Attractive facades

Create a vision to redevelop Oranje-Nassaustraat, exploring its potential. Is it possible to make connections with the history of the city, local issues, and problems? The abandoned shop problem has a general, a nationwide, but also a local aspect, because of the population decrease in this part of the Netherlands.

The Oranje-Nassaustraat already has nine empty retail premises and this number is increasing. Instead of seeing this as a negative change, we can see all the opportunities this dying street has to offer for young entrepreneurs.
My research focused on the building’s facades. Most of the vacant buildings are now protected by shutters or gates, which in my opinion is making the street appear even more abandoned. The vacant stores often still carry their old signs, which is making the facades less attractive to new entrepreneurs. What if the street were more neutral? lf these deceased identities were removed, creating a blank canvas for new starters?
